Cooking Thermometers
Looking for a remote cooking
thermometer? A remote cooking thermometer is a neat
little invention, it allows you to check a roast or other
such delicacy roasting away without you having to walk up to
the oven to check on it. All you need do is stick the
thermometer into it then keep the hand held device in your
hand at all times. There is usually a range in which
the temperature can be transmitted, like say 100 feet, but
that will allow you to do other things while at the same
time keeping tabs on what is being cooked.
Needless to say a remote cooking
thermometer can be quite a time freeing device, especially
if you’re cooking a large turkey for Thanksgiving dinner
that can take upwards of 6 hours to fully cook. But if
you’re not sure which remote cooking thermometer you should
go with, here’s a quick look at some of the better ones on
Amazon that you may want to consider:
1. RediCheck Remote Cooking
Thermometer
This is one of the better ones out there,
it is rated 4/5 stars by 5 customers and costs about
$24.99. This will allow you to monitor the temperature
of meat in your oven or grill, even if you’re up to 100 feet
away. You can even program it to trigger an alarm when
it reaches a specific temperature for total hands free and
mind free cooking.
The receiver and transmitter both have
fold out stands that can also be used as belt clips which is
pretty neat as well.
Both the probe and foil wire are quite
resilient the wires don’t break easily and can withstand a
lot of wear and tear in the oven. When you’re using
this though, be sure to insert the thermometer into the
center of the meat to get the most accurate
readings.
The only con with this is that the battery
is covered with 4 screws that you’ll need a special jeweler
screwdriver to get to. Other than that, this is pretty
easy to use and judge the temperatures and is built to
last.
2. Taylor Digital Cooking
Thermometer/Timer
Another very popular remote cooking
thermometer is this one which has gotten 3.5/5 stars from a
whopping 211 customer reviews. This one is also pretty
cheap at only $15.99, it remotely displays the temperature
of the food and also the time elapsed while the food has
been cooking. An alarm will go off when you reach the
desired cooking time or temperature and this is made of
stainless steel with a 4 foot cord that leads to the
thermometer.
Now as popular and useful as this is, some
don’t find it to be very durable. One reviewer
mentions he’s now on his 3rd unit and 4th probe and that he
uses it daily. If this is something that you’re going
to be using that frequently as well, you may go through them
as fast as this guy since the probes can be damaged by heat
over 350F.
Basically, this thing works well until it
breaks.
Now if you’re looking for another remote
cooking thermometer, there are several others to choose from
out there, this is just a small look into what is
available.
